Peachy Magazine talks with the singer/songwriter, Sam Tompkins, to ask him five questions about life as it is right now for the rising mega-talent.

What was the first song that you learned to play on an instrument?

The first song I learned to play on an instrument was “What I’ve done” by Linkin Park. I completely forgot about that until now actually!

Listen to Sam Tompkins new single “You’re The Love Of My Life” while reading the feature:

If you had to choose a theme song that would match your life right now, which one would it be and why?

Locked Up – Akon. (I’m sorry, but it’s true)

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

The best piece of advice I think I’ve ever received is to not care about what other people think of you and don’t let them cross your mind. It’s not your business to worry about that. It’s only your business to worry about how you feel about yourself.

Can you highlight a lyric of yours that means something special to you, and why that is?

“Can’t cut you off like Vincent” – this lyric is in my song You Broke My Heart So Gently’ and it’s about letting go of an old relationship and how hard that can be sometimes when you know that no one is to blame for it breaking down. I have a fascination with Vincent Van Gogh, so I felt honored to be able to use his name in my music.

Do you have a pre-show ritual? If yes, what is it?

My pre-show ritual is to take the piss out of each member of my band thoroughly, drink some honey, ginger and lemon tea, do a twenty minute vocal warm up and then I’m fully ready.
